Guest appearance of the exhibition “Soldiers of Count Josip Kazimir Drašković” at the Sinjska Alka Museum

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:

The exhibition “Soldiers of Count Josip Kazimir Drašković”, currently on display at the Muzej Sinjske alke, reveals a fascinating story of the military, artistic, and family heritage of one of the most prominent Croatian noble families.

Through a gallery of portraits, painted wallpapers, and a small genealogical tree, visitors will discover the life and ambitions of Count Josip Kazimir Drašković, a military commander whose fate was also shaped by a powerful personal story. After losing the favor of the court due to his marriage to Susana Malatinsky, he sought to restore his reputation and demonstrate the strength and honor of his family to Empress Maria Theresa.

The exhibition features portraits of officers from his regiment, eleven painted wallpapers depicting military units, and a small genealogical display. The Trakošćan gallery forms part of a broader European cultural pattern of 18th-century officer galleries, a unique phenomenon within Habsburg military and social life.

The exhibition was realized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia.
