ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
INSTRMNTS: Playing the Game of Music offers a unique interactive exhibition that brings together music, art, nature, and contemporary technology through the original musical instruments of Portuguese composer and artist Victor Gama.
Each instrument is inspired by the natural world, outer space, animals, or ancient landscapes, with its story shaping its form, sound, and the way it is played. Visitors have the opportunity to discover instruments inspired by constellations, Saturn’s rings, the communal nests of birds, dinosaur footprints, tarantulas, and many other motifs that connect science, nature, and music.
What makes the exhibition truly distinctive is its interactive nature. Rather than simply observing the exhibits, visitors become active participants, invited to explore, touch, and play the instruments. Many of them are designed for collaborative performance, encouraging visitors to create music together and engage with one another through sound. In this way, the exhibition space becomes a place of encounter, dialogue, and shared creativity.
By combining innovative instrument design, digital technologies, and the rich symbolism of the natural world, the exhibition offers a fresh perspective on music as a universal language that connects people, cultures, and diverse ways of experiencing the world.
