NOTICE TO VISITORS:
Due to a landslide that has been activated, a section of the pedestrian path around the lake has been closed for visitor safety. Walking around the lake is still possible; however, we kindly ask you to use the remaining section of the path and follow the posted signage.
The forest around the lake and the landscaped park area are protected and preserved parts of the former large comital estate that form a historical and natural whole. The forest park abounds in diverse flora and fauna: the richness of vegetation, together with the lake, creates a harmonious horticultural environment.
In the second half of the 19th century, the immediate surroundings of the castle were redeveloped to create a deliberately designed park, or rather, a romantic-style landscaped garden that imitates nature and gives an illusion of spontaneity in the layout of its spatial sections. At that time, the Trakošćan Lake was also landscaped, which from its very beginning had a dual function – economic, as a fishpond, and aesthetic, as a decorative element common in romantic park architecture.
