The Hunting Collection has over a hundred items and highlights the rich hunting tradition of the Drašković family. The larger part of the collection consists of big game trophies that were of most interest for hunting (roe deer antlers, red deer antlers, fallow deer antlers, and fallow deer trophies), while a smaller part includes trophies of capercaillie, wild boar and hawk. Two trophies of the griffon vulture, today a protected animal species, have a special place in the collection.
The trophies date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In addition to the year of the hunt, some of them also contain information about the hunting ground and the name of the hunter. The most represented domestic hunting grounds include Novi Marof, Škrnik, Trakošćan, Ježovec, Čemernica, Macelj, Klenovnik, Orahovica, Slavonija, and more. We also find Hungarian (Kosztrina, Szilvas, Koztmiklos, Sellye), as well as Austrian hunting grounds (Freistritz Wald, Johnsbach). The names of the hunters mentioned are those of Ivan Drašković, Ivan Drašković the Younger and Dragutin Drašković.
Around eighty items or the larger part of the collection, are permanently presented as part of the permanent exhibition in the hunting hall, on the exterior walls of the porch and in the inner courtyard of the castle. The Hunting Collection consequently complements the interpretation of the aristocratic lifestyle and simultaneously enriches the museum’s overall presentation content, making the presentation attractive, authentic, and complete.
