The publication accompanies the thematic exhibition Who is Marrying Whom?, which tells the story of arranged marriages and provides insight into the social and cultural practices of noble and aristocratic marriages.
It explores the marriage strategy of the Drašković family, the key elements of the marriage process, such as marriage contracts and dowries, deals with desirable and undesirable marriage partners, and shows the contribution and importance of women in aristocratic families.
The bilingual catalogue presents portraits, photographs, small artefacts and other materials from the holdings of the Trakošćan Castle museum, the Varaždin City Museum, the Croatian History Museum, the Museum of Arts and Crafts, and archival materials from the Croatian State Archives and the Archdiocesan Archives in Zagreb.
The items cover the period from the mid-16th to the early 20th century and are a valuable source that sheds light on the life and practices of noble marriages in the aforementioned period.
