The Trakošćan Castle museum is located in the beautiful countryside of north-western Croatia, near the city of Varaždin. Built in the 13th century, Trakošćan Castle is located on a hill above the lake of the same name, surrounded by a forested park and breathtaking scenery. This historic location is an ideal place to explore Croatia’s rich cultural heritage, architecture and natural beauty. Our visitors can enjoy walks through the park, explore the museum collections and enjoy the panoramic views of the surroundings.

How to reach Trakošćan?

• by car: Trakošćan Castle is easily accessible by car and is located along the main road connecting Zagreb and Maribor. If you are coming from Zagreb, the journey takes about an hour and a half (approximately 80 km). Follow the A2 motorway towards Krapina, then take the exit for Trakošćan and follow the signs to the castle. From Varaždin, the castle is about a 45-minute drive (approximately 40 km) and is accessible via the D508 state road.
• by bus: unfortunately, there is no direct bus line from Zagreb to Trakošćan. You first have to take a bus from Zagreb to Varaždin and then from Varaždin to Trakošćan.
